Biltmore Estate Reception and Tour
Sponsored by athenahealth

Biltmore House in Fall

Step back in time at the exquisite Biltmore Estate during a reception and guided tour of America’s largest home. When the Vanderbilt family vacationed in Asheville in 1888, George Vanderbilt immediately fell in love with the rustic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A year later, construction began to make his dream of a European-inspired country estate come to life.

Construction began in 1889 and required over 1,000 workers. Small factories were built on the property to produce the materials necessary for the construction of the house. A private railroad track was laid from the village depot to deliver the Indiana limestone and Italian marble that Vanderbilt imported. In 1895, the result was an 8,000-acre estate with 250 rooms, formal and informal gardens, and America’s first managed forest.

Discover the rich history of the Estate including its public opening during the Great Depression and its important role during World War II. Hear stories about parties in the house, the personalities of friends who visited, how the Vanderbilts spent their time at the Estate, and the artifacts that have been collected over the years.

Catawba Brewing Company

Over the past 17 years, brothers Billy and Scott transformed their love of beer into a booming brewery. The seven-barrel brewery and tasting room in Asheville’s South Slope area is one of three locations that serve Catawba’s nine flagship beers.

Green Man Brewery

As one of Asheville's oldest breweries, Green Man Brewery crafts some of Asheville’s most iconic ales. The pub offers a variety of its own Green Man ales, casks (on authentic beer engines), specialty brews, and guest taps.

New Belgium Brewing

The fourth-largest brewer of craft beer in the nation and the eighth-largest brewery in the United States, New Belgium Brewing opened its second location in Asheville in 2012. The original two beers created by owner Jeff Lebasch after touring ale houses in Europe – a Belgian-style ale called Abbey and an amber beer called Fat Tire – are still some of the company’s most beloved brews.

Wedge Brewing
Established in 2008, Wedge is a neighborhood brewery with two locations in the heart of Asheville’s River Arts District. All beers are brewed at the Wedge and sold at the Wedge and use the highest quality malt, hops, and adjunct ingredients.
