PHA is the sole voice on behalf of the industry in Washington, DC. Our experienced lobbyists monitor legislation and advocate for your interests. In addition, we hold Washington, DC fly-ins, making it easy for you to meet with key Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill. Our Political Action Committee (PAC) supports candidates who believe in the free marketplace for healthcare; while our Grassroots Toolkits help you advance your hospital’s advocacy goals. We work to keep information up-to-date and relevant.
Information and regulations are constantly changing and evolving as the Affordable Care Act and other laws are implemented. It can be difficult to understand how the new laws impact your hospital. PHA provides bi-monthly regulatory update e-mails and a monthly teleconference to keep you up-to-speed. Members may also submit questions online at any time and a regulatory expert will provide advice on how these changes will impact your hospital. Please visit physicianhospitals.org/ask to learn more.
The PHA Executive Summit is an exclusive, invitation-only event for member CEOs, executives, and physician-owners. The three-day Executive Summit includes educational sessions and social activities that emphasize one-on-one and small group interactions, allowing you increased opportunity to discuss ideas, share best outcomes, and create deep, lasting connections with your peers in attendance. In 2017, the PHA Executive Summit will head east, taking place at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, October 11-13, 2017. Additional information will be posted online soon.
The PHA website physicianhospitals.org and the newsletter, PHA E-Pulse are excellent resources for finding recent news and information about the most current trends in our industry including press releases, op-ed pieces, and stories we have worked with the media to generate. Stay up-to-date on what is happening in the industry and on Capitol Hill by reading the twice-monthly e-newsletter, the PHA E-PULSE, and members-only email communications.
We have also launched a patient-oriented site at myphysicianhospital.org to educate the public about the advantages of physician-ownership, including higher-quality and lower-costs, and to enlist their support for our cause on Capitol Hill. This site includes a find-a-hospital map to help potential patients locate you and learn more about your facility. If you would like to add anything to your hospital profile you may contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Public Affairs and Marketing
PHA can also help support you through media relations and strategic public relations campaigns. A group of public affairs and marketing professionals from member hospitals meets monthly by teleconference to discuss issues of mutual interest. Volunteers share important ways to reach out to the media, your communities, and stakeholders. If your marketing or PR personnel are interested in getting involved, please direct them to physicianhospitals.org/pr
PHA Waiting-Room Brochures are a great way to tell your patients about the advantages of physician-ownership of hospitals, the exceptional quality and value of your facilities, and to make them aware of the legislative issues that threaten our industry. Recently, PHA sent your organization a bundle of brochures for you to place in strategic areas in your hospital and clinics with important facts to share with your patients and families. The literature provides information that shares the success story of our industry. If you wish to order more of these brochures please visit physicianhospitals.org/brochures.
The PHA benchmarking project provides up-to-date analytic reports complete with financial performance, operational efficiencies and staffing models to support both your day-to-day procedures and strategic initiatives. This valuable data shows how your facility measures-up against other hospitals in your community and nation-wide. This data is also used in aggregate to aid PHA in our lobbying efforts in Washington.
PHA is developing a program in which member POH’s can request guidance from another member that excels in certain areas such as patient satisfaction, outcomes reporting, infection control, purchasing and many other areas. A call-for-volunteers to serve as mentors will be coming soon. If your hospital is interested in participating as a mentor you may contact us at email@example.com.
Awards and Recognition
Beginning in 2015, and continuing in 2016, we issued two new awards to recognize outstanding facilities and individual contributors: the Physician Hospital of the Year and PHA President’s Award. Nominations for 2017 awards will be accepted in spring 2017 and winners will be presented at the PHA Executive Summit, October 11-13, 2017 at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC.
